Miss. Alyssa This week we did the classic "Make Your Own Butter" activity. Surprisingly, many of my kiddos had never done it before! With only 4 ingredients, you can't go wrong! Remember to shake MORE after the butter reaches the whipped cream stage. The butter will start to harden and form a ball in the jar. That's when you know it's time to drain the buttermilk! I gave each child a recipe card and they had to read what comes next! We enjoyed the butter on some crescent rolls we made in our classroom sandwich maker. I labeled, dated and sent home the jars with each child to enjoy with their families! I must say though, that my paras and I did a lot more shaking than the kiddos, so be prepared! :) That's all for now!
Miss. Alyssa Today featured in my TpT Store is a 2 pack of Thanksgiving social stories. The first relates to Thanksgiving break, having days off from school, and going back to school on Monday. The second relates to Thanksgiving day, seeing family, watching football, sitting at the table and trying new foods. ( this one is GREAT for kiddos who don't regularly sit at the table.) I send these home a few days before the break and introduce it in class as a lesson as well to get the ball rolling. This allows parents to review at home and get them settled for a break from school. Hope this can be of use to you! That's all for now!
Miss. Alyssa So I went to the post office and picked up the free flat rate shipping boxes. I used 8. I put them in two rows of 4 so all students can reach the boxes and taped the two piles together. Super easy and FREE. I then bought some cute wrapping paper at target for $1.00. And they were ready to go! I did add student names to each box after I took these photos. The whole project cost $1.00 Hello all! Today I wanna share one of my latest endeavors... DIY mailboxes. I had been scrambling around with a desk full of worksheets for the first 2 months of school and thought to myself enough is enough. I looked up some commercially sold mailboxes and found they were very expensive, and most made from just cardboard. So I thought I CAN DO THAT! With saving all the money you would have spent on commercially sold mailboxes you can get yourself a few more lattes on the way to school these chilly mornings! That's all for now!
Miss. Alyssa Happy hump day! Sometimes, you need an article like this one to help you through the week! Couldn't get through the week without sharing this one! From a teachers of THAT child and THOSE children to another and to anyone who will listen: " Dear Parent: I know. You’re worried. Every day, your child comes home with a story about THAT kid. The one who is always hitting shoving pinching scratching maybe even biting other children. The one who always has to hold my hand in the hallway. The one who has a special spot at the carpet, and sometimes sits on a chair rather than the floor. The one who had to leave the block centre because blocks are not for throwing. The one who climbed over the playground fence right exactly as I was telling her to stop. The one who poured his neighbour’s milk onto the floor in a fit of anger. On purpose. While I was watching. And then, when I asked him to clean it up, emptied the ENTIRE paper towel dispenser. On purpose. While I was watching. The one who dropped the REAL ACTUAL F-word in gym class......" Our kids may stand out in the halls, in the community, and on the streets. But there is a reason for their behavior. There is a reason for every child's behavior. It is not all bad parenting or rough homes. Keep an open mind this holiday season in the stores and restaurants, in the halls of your child's school. Our special children must work 100 times harder to achieve a goal, and often their behavior suffers because of the imbalance. You never know what someone has accomplished that day, and sacrificed because of it! All children are beautiful, full of life, and full of love! That's all for now,
Miss. Alyssa Time to introduce my favorite freebie in my TPT store! Social Stories are short stories, told in the first person, that illustrate how to behave in a specific situation. Many stories are child specific but many of our children have similar difficulties. I have shared what I consider the most commonly needed social story for free in my Teachers Pay Teachers store. My Feelings: This social story is perfect for children that have difficulty managing their anger and is complete with strategies to calm down. This story is written in the first person and uses Mayer Johnson picture symbols. This story pairs perfectly with the Calm Down Choices strip also available on my TpT store page. Be sure to grab this story, laminate, bind, and use for years to come! Don't forget to pick up your copy of calm down choices as well!! That's all for now,
