Hello! Today I am featuring one of my favorite products in my TpT store. This adaptive book, " Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? " by Eric Carle and Bill Martin Jr. is a favorite of so many kids of all ages! I adapted it using both print and Mayer Johnson picture symbols to add ease of reading for students with disabilities. This book is interactive, colorful, and exciting for all students with disabilities, but especially early childhood and primary grade students. The book is easily paired with comprehension questions and can be used to take data!
I, myself, adapted the book even further to make it a " touch and feel" book for children with Autism and Visual Impairments. In my version, I reprinted copies of each animal, cut it out, laminated, and then added fur, feathers, and scales. I then used velcro to attach to each page. All of the "Touch and Feel" fabrics/ papers can be found at Michael's Craft Stores or any craft store near you.
When I use the book in class, I give each child an animal, when I read the page of their animal, they must speak up and let me know they have it! They then get to return it to the book. It keeps them attending, and practicing listening and speaking skills.
Whether you adapt it even further or not, this adaptive book is the perfect addition to your adaptive library. Laminate, bind, and it will last you for years on end!
