I began creating some resources for my classroom and wanted to share them with you all, so I am posting to TPT.

Hello! I have been contemplating functional math skills for my elementary students a lot lately. How early is too early to start money skills and purchasing skills? I almost want to say NEVER because this is one piece of the puzzle of their independence, and we all know how important repetition is! I began creating some resources for my classroom and wanted to share them with you all, so I am posting to TPT. I laminated the sheets in my dollar up pack and put them in a binder to be used with a dry erase marker. My students love to " go shopping" in the classroom for all the yummy treats! So grab my Dollar Up Diner pack today- and start teaching some functional math skills! That's all for now

Today at school I had a huge realization. I was getting one of my 3rd grade students off his van when I realized how unaware of his own safety and surroundings are. If I let go of his hand, he would walk right into traffic into a strangers hands. With a younger elementary school classroom, I have come to the realization that not enough emphasis is put on safety for students this age. For our severe special ed students, they need to be taught and practice over and over again. Repetition and generalization are key. What would these students do if they were not explicitly taught. If I don't teach them, who will? So I raced home, after a too long trip to the dollar store, and began working on my common signs file folder pack. I worked on it for 7 straight hours and have just posted it! I am so proud of this first product in a series of safety products I will be creating. This product includes: - File Folder picture to picture matching - File Folder picture to label matching - Common Sign Flashcards - Men/ Women's Restroom sign Sort - Enter/ Do not Enter Sort - Bingo Game ( 4 different boards) As I said, this will be the first of many safety products in the making. Safety first, kids! That's all for now,
Miss Alyssa Happy MLK Jr. Day! For most of us, this means a day at home with no work. For us TpTers it means sales, creating, and laminating! But on this day I would like us all to remember some of the great things Martin Luther King Jr. said. Especially this quote that inspires me as a special educator. Our students have to try so hard without seeing what is ahead of them. We can assist them and make life a little easier one step at a time. Today in honor of MLK Jr. I am having a sale on my new products in my tpt store! These products will be 15% off today only! Be sure to check out the sale! Enjoy your day off ! I will be enjoying mine with a tea and some netflix... and some laminating! That's all for now.

Miss Alyssa Hello! It has been a crazy new year so far! Michael and I have moved into our new apartment and spending lots of money to get it looking all pretty- but hit lots of bumps in the road along the way.... it's a work in progress :) I have been working on this product for a long time! So excited to finally share it with you all. The dollar up method is FANTASTIC for life skills kiddos. I always say kids are never to young to start this method. I have one 5th grader that I have started working on this with and she thinks it's so much fun to go shopping! What better way to motivate students. I am lucky enough to take my students on field trips every other week. We practice safety skills, community signs, purchasing skills ( Like DOLLAR UP!) and we generalize appropriate behavior in the community. This practice pack is full of resources and practice to help your students become pros at the dollar up method! OH and I hope you like my new blog look :) New year, new style! That's all for now!
Miss Alyssa And just like that, in the blink of an eye, vacation is over! I'm choosing to celebrate rather than mope all day! I love school and my students and can't wait to get back. I definitely did not get as much as I wanted done this break, so I am doing a marathon of school work today. Finishing up lots of new TPT products as well! I decided to make this product when I found little available resources for teaching beginner synonyms. Many of the products I found includes determining if pairs were synonyms or antonyms. This is solely for synonym beginners. I will be using this for special education state alternative testing portfolios! This is perfect for students with disabilities because of the eye- catching graphics ( THANK YOU MyCuteGraphics), large print, and simple words. Students can also practice fine motor skills by cutting out their own penguins, or you can create a reusable set by laminating! The Penguin Synonym Match can be used in so many ways! - create a matching game, student with the most pairs wins - use for whole group instruction, matching on board - Use to play a memory game - Perfect for your state alternative testing goals Includes 42 synonym matches on penguin cards! Print and laminate to use over and over again! Velcro to the board for whole group instruction! I hope you enjoy this first of many to soon come new products in my newly updated TpT Store: Simply Special ED! That's all for now!
